The inaugural Chelsea AutoLegends, launched on the 11th August, will be staged at the Royal Hospital Chelsea on Sunday 5th September. This exciting new event will bring many of the world’s finest road and track cars to the nation’s capital city for the very first time and also play a significant role in raising funds for the Chelsea Pensioners.

This year’s festival – to be staged on the glorious Thames-side South Grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea on Sunday 5th September – will put a special spotlight on many of the illustrious cars that have starred at the world famous Le Mans 24 Hours race.

“This will be the most valuable collection of cars ever seen in London,” said event director, Simon Daukes. “Forty of the most famous Le Mans cars ranging from the big Bentleys of the Twenties to contemporary high-tech sports prototypes will be on display plus a mouth-watering array of past and present supercars. I’m also delighted to say that the capital’s most famous racing driver, Sir Stirling Moss, will be with us to open the show on 5th September. For these and lots of other reasons, it’s going to be a truly fabulous occasion, set in truly wonderful surroundings with entertainment for all the family.”

Having lived in Chelsea for all his life and witnessed no fewer than 43 runnings of the classic Le Mans 24 Hours, Chelsea AutoLegends founder Michael Scott is equally thrilled to see his dream become a reality. “I have a deep passion for Le Mans cars and was born just up the road from the Royal Hospital, so I’m incredibly proud not only to be the inspiration behind what’s going to be a marvellous show but also to be raising much needed funds for the Chelsea Pensioners,” said Scott who has already donated more than £4,000 this year to Royal Hospital via his informal monthly ‘Rendezvous’ gatherings at the same venue for local car enthusiasts.

Royal Hospital Chelsea’s Lieutenant Governor, Major General Peter Currie, is a very keen supporter of the new car-based festival. He said: “I greatly welcome Chelsea AutoLegends. It’s wonderful that we are holding this new event here as raising money is crucially important in our quest to maintain and improve what’s a very, very special place. We have already raised £32m for the completion of the first stage of our modernisation programme but now require a further £30m to bring the pensioners’ accommodation up to 21st Century standards – much of it remains as it was when Sir Christopher Wren first designed the spectacular building more than 300 years ago. Moreover, it’s always good to be associated with any organisation that aspires to excellence. We host the Chelsea Flower Show which is the most supreme event of its kind in the world and we are confident Chelsea AutoLegends will match up to a similar standard of excellence.”

Stirling certainly thinks that it will “It’s wonderful and exciting that London, one of the greatest cities in the World, finally has a high-class car motoring event – and about time too,” he said prior to his depature to the US. “I’m look forward to opening the show on the 5th September and hope to see many of you enthusiasts supporting the event as I am.”
