Congratulations to Christine Mills MBE, founder of the charity Hope for Tomorrow, who received her MBE in the New Year’s honours list.
Following the passing of her husband David from cancer of the spine, Christine wanted to alleviate the suffering of people travelling long distances to and from hospital to receive chemotherapy treatment. She raised enough money to build the world's first mobile chemotherapy unit, complete with two dedicated nurses, which can treat 12 to 20 cancer patients a day within the local communities that the units visit.
Each unit costs £250,000 to build and maintain, which the charity then loans to the NHS Trusts. The units are now operating in Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire, with more planned for NHS Trusts across the UK. Funding is achieved through charity events and donations, with support coming from the charities patrons, which include Stirling and Derek Bell MBE.
She said: "I am proud that it's helping patients. I get letters from them all the time. It is a tribute to my husband, David, and all my sponsors that I managed to do it."
Christine is tireless in her efforts to raise money for the charity, her family, friends and supporters can be very proud of all she has achieved so far.
