Stirling, the narrator of the children’s smash hit TV show is joined by another motor racing legend, commentator Murray Walker, who is set to make his debut on children’s TV. He plays himself in a new Roary the Racing Car episode which will air on Five’s Milkshake! on Thursday 10th December 2009 at 7.30am and coming soon to Nick Jr.
Famous for his boyish enthusiasm and instantly recognisable commentating voice, Murray became known for his on-air gaffes – affectionately called 'Murrayisms' – which include, 'With half the race gone, there's half the race still to go' and 'here comes Damon Hill in the Williams. This car is absolutely unique - except for the one following it, which is identical'.
Murray plays himself in the first episode, called Motor Mouth, of a new series of Roary the Racing Car episodes. His excitable commentary style was deemed perfect for the fast-paced adventures set on Silver Hatch race track. Other celebrities already working on the show include comedian Peter Kay as the voice of Big Chris and his mother Big Christine, and of course Stirling, who narrates the series.
Murray said: "My friends with children, literally from all over the world, have told me how much they enjoy watching Roary the Racing Car with their youngsters, so I was delighted when I was invited to join the cast. They have been enormous fun and I now feel that I have achieved fame at last by becoming part of such an outstanding entertainment!"
