The Monaco Grand Prix is not the only race taking place this coming weekend that has a direct association with Stirling. The first race of the new Stirling Moss Trophy series, for genuine, pre-1961 sportscars and sports-racers, also takes place this weekend, 15th -16th May, at the HSCC International meeting on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit, note that Stirling will not be present though as he is still recovering from his accident. Motor Racing Legends, which launched the series, not only reports a full grid for the first race but says all the races throughout the 2010 season are already “heavily oversubscribed”.
The Stirling Moss Trophy was Inspired by the success of the one-off race of that bore his name at the Algarve in October in 2009. The new Stirling Moss Trophy absorbs the BRDC Historic Sportscars series but extends the entry criteria to include GTs, as well as sportscars and sports-racers. The 2010 race calendar includes the Grand Prix de l’Age d’Or at Dijon on 19th - 20th June, again Stirling will not be present at the French round, the Silverstone Classic on 24th -25th July, the Oulton Park Gold Cup on 28th - 30th August, the Six-Hours meeting at Spa on 25th - 26th September and the Algarve Historic Festival on 15th -16th October.
Stirling will be at the Silverstone and Oulton Park rounds, for the European rounds later in the year, Stirling expects to be at Spa and Algarve. Confirmation of the later will be provided nearer the time.
The Stirling Moss Trophy is sponsored by J.D. Classics, which has itself entered a Jaguar C-type and Lister Jaguar Knobbly in the first race.
