The roar of the crowd, the surge of the engine and the race against the clock – can you beat the fastest lap time of one of the most legendary races in Formula 1 history? Find out at this year’s NEC Classic Motor Show thanks to Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance.

Visitors to the Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance stand in Hall 5-310 at this year’s Classic Motor Show can try their hand as a racing driver and attempt to beat the fastest lap time that Sir Stirling recorded during the historic 1961 Monaco Grand Prix – just 1 minute and 39 seconds.

Competitors can get ‘behind the wheel’ of a Lotus Climax display and undertake an on-screen lap of Monaco’s infamous, narrow, twisting circuit, whilst experiencing the same handling, acceleration and braking characteristics as ‘Moss the Boss’ did 56 years ago.

The ‘driver’ who tops the Championship Table by recording the fastest lap time each day will be awarded a magnum of Champagne (but kindly asked not to spray it over fellow competitors in celebration) or, if under 18 years-old, a £50 Amazon voucher.

Moss’ record-breaking victory in the 1961 Monaco Grand Prix at the wheel of a Lotus 18-Climax is etched in history as one of the most courageous and skilful displays of motor racing the world has ever seen.

Beating-off the relentless pursuit of rivals Richie Ginther, Phil Hill and Wolfgang Von Trips in their more powerful Ferraris whilst battling the incredible Riviera heat and unforgiving, twisting circuit, Moss clinched Lotus’ first ever F1 victory in what was to be a truly momentous win.

Peter James, director of Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance said: “It’s fantastic to be able to celebrate this historic race on our stand – even if it is on screen.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming those who fancy pitting their wits against the infamous Monaco circuit to try to beat Sir Stirling’s fastest lap time and see if they can top our live Championship Table and be crowned the worthy victor.”

Also showcased on the leading broker’s show stand will be a beautiful 1929 Ford Model A Phaeton, the star of a pioneering project to encourage the next generation of enthusiasts into the classic vehicle movement.

Show-goers can speak to those behind the Ford Model A Loan Project, including Peter Garret, who has loaned his Ford Phaeton to budding classics enthusiast, 26-year-old Richard Gordon-Colebrooke for twelve months to allow him to experience life as a new classics owner.

Richard, Peter and fellow project co-ordinator Bob Wilkinson will all be in attendance at the event to tell people more about the innovative initiative.
