Stirling Moss Statue Unveiling, Mallory Park

A statue to commemorate Sir Stirling was recently unveiled at historic racing circuit Mallory Park in Leicestershire. The statue was erected to commemorate the life and accomplishments of one of the world's greatest motoring heroes.

Among those in attendance were Sir Stirling’s wife Lady Susie, John Surtees and former BBC presenter Raymond Baxter, who paid tribute to the great man. Mallory Park’s owner, Chris Meek, also gave a speech before the statue was unveiled by his wife.

"This was a poignant ceremony as many of my family, friends and colleagues from a lifetime of motor racing were there," wrote Sir Stirling in his column in Octane. "About 20 of the 80 cars I competed in were also present, all brought by their owners from as far away as Inverness and Belgium. It was a real honour to have my assembled friends say so many kind words."

Among the cars on display was the Lotus 18, number 20, that Sir Stirling drove to one of his most incredible victories of all, the 1961 Monaco GP when he famously had the side panels removed to aid cooling. This car and Moss's recollections of that extraordinary feat when he beat the full team of more powerful Ferraris by sheer driving brilliance are included in the latest Stirling Moss Scrapbook 1961.

Sir Stirling Moss at the Goodwood Revival 2006

As ever Stirling had a busy, hard-working but enjoyable Goodwood Revival meeting, which continues to be the most fantastic motor racing weekend of the year. Sir Stirling visited the Porter Press stand to sign large numbers of the 1955 and 1961 Scrapbooks on all three days, Sir Stirling was racing and proving that he has not lost his touch. Lady Moss accompanied Sir Stirling and, as ever, she looked stunning in her various period outfits.

The limited edition leather-bound de Luxe edition of both of the Scrapbooks sold very well at Goodwood with a number of purchasers expressing the desire to retain their number throughout the series. The list of names is becoming a positive 'Who's Who' of the motoring world!

XK Club Dinner at the House of Commons

Sir Stirling Moss (XK Club Patron) was present for another year running at the XK Club annual dinner at the House of Commons.  He entertained guests with an entertaining and memorable question and answer session and seemed to have all the time in the world to mix with the club members.
