Jeremy Broad, father of the well-known XK specialist Guy Broad, has been an enthusiast all his life which is hardly surprising as his father used to hillclimb ERAs and suchlike. The following short article by Jeremy is taken from the XK Gazette, the monthly magazine of the XK Club , of which Sir Stirling is Patron.
Goodwood Circuit on Wednesday 22nd of June was one of those delightful days that only come up a handful of times in one’s life.
A lovely little celebration for our Patron - Sir Stirling Moss.

We were there as it had become our deadline to complete JWK 651 - yet another of Stirling’s historic drives in the 1950s - its running at the 1950 Le Mans being perhaps the main reason that Jaguar Cars ever progressed further with their racing programme. Stirling also drove her with ‘owner’ Leslie Johnson for a 24-hour endurance run at Montlhery, averaging 112.40mph for the last hour.
.
JWK 651 was alongside one of its half-sisters, JWK 988 the Works alloy car that projected SM to fame on the eve of his 21st birthday at the 1950 Tourist Trophy (he won it!) - now owned by Sir Anthony Bamford. Also present were the two-tone 120 Fixed Head Coupé of Vic Norman driven by SM in various rallies in the early 1950s. To complete the Jaguar association was SM’s own C-type, chassis XKC 039.
A fabulous day and I hope my pictures will tell the story.
